Responsibilities:
  • Renders professional nursing care to perioperative patients by ensuring safety throughout the surgical experience, coordinating care with the surgical team, and implementing perioperative nursing interventions based on professional standards and the patient’s condition.
  • Reviews the patient’s chart for informed consents, verification of the correct site, side and procedure, required documentation and testing, and reviews the surgeon’s preference card to ensure equipment and supplies are prepared for the case.
  • Assists during surgical procedures by preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies; functioning as the scrub and/or circulating nurse; anticipating the needs of the surgical team, participating in positioning the patient for surgery, maintaining sterile technique, performing, and documenting counts, managing specimens, and obtaining and delivering medication to the sterile field as needed for surgery.
  • Documents all perioperative nursing care, including assessments, positioning, counts, specimens, equipment, implants, medications delivered to the field, and safety checks, in accordance with facility standards.
Qualifications:
  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
  • Or
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island
  • Requires up to one year combined previous related and on-the-job experience to gain expertise effectively assessing and responding to changes in patient condition and to function as member of surgical team
