Endoscopy Registered Nurse at Brown University Health

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee) implement, supervise and evaluate the nursing care of each patient using a nursing process and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. From admission to discharge plan with consideration of the aging process throughout the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Provide direct nursing care to patients with complex needs, performing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Delegate and supervise nursing care activities provided by licensed practical nurses, nursing student associates, certified nursing assistants, technicians, unit assistants and unit service coordinators.

Maintain the implementation of therapeutic/diagnostic orders as per policy, evaluate and communicate to physicians patient responses and condition changes, keep families informed of care status and changes, and coordinate discharge planning utilizing hospital and community resources.

Teach patients and families, maintain confidentiality, act as a patient and family advocate, and document according to policy and procedure. Ensure basic life support certification, adhere to universal precautions and safety programs, perform CPR in cardiopulmonary arrest, and respond to emergency/code situations. Maintain proper use of equipment, monitor safety equipment, and report unsafe situations.

Engage in lifelong learning, maintain credentialing requirements, provide reliable attendance and punctuality, track and utilize resources cost‑effectively, participate in unit activities including quality improvement, orientation of all team members, staff education programs and the preceptor program. Maintain accurate developmental goals and update knowledge of nursing practice, medical technology, and research findings. Serve as a charge nursing position when delegated and collaborate with academic faculty and students to meet learner objectives.

Responsibilities for endoscopy include monitoring patient during conscious sedation, monitoring post‑procedure complications, assisting physicians, ensuring equipment readiness, managing supply inventory, cleaning and disinfecting endoscopes, performing specimen testing, and adhering to endoscopy department policies and procedures.

• BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
  Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients considering aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
• Current RN licensure in Rhode Island or a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact; complete Hospital Patient Care Delivery Orientation Program.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS);
  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
• Two years’ medical‑surgical nursing experience with telemetry experience required; two years’ endoscopy experience preferred.
• General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions; frequent standing, walking, and sitting required.
• Independently performs duties within department policies and defers to supervisor for complex problems.
• No supervisory responsibilities.

$35.70 – $71.40 per hour
