Summary

Under general supervision, the Washroom Aide is responsible for dumping, washing, and drying linen. Brown University Health employees are expected to role‑model the organization’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence, and to demonstrate the core Success Factors:

Responsibilities
  • Use the soil system computer to operate and load state‑of‑the‑art industrial washers accurately, safely, and to maximum capacity.
  • Utilize the washer personal computer pad in conjunction with the soil system computer to advance the washer through all steps and cycles.
  • Monitor the washer personal computer pad screen and ensure efficient operation of each wash load (water level, steam, drain, chemical injections).
  • Accurately record manual loads of linen washed and dried on a daily shift log.
  • Load rewash linen into washers and dryers, tag loads as rewash, measure and add the required amount of Oxalic Acid, and clean lint baskets and drain screens.
  • Manually unload up to 600 pounds of sheets from washers, ensuring sheets are laid flat and separating linen between dryer slings.
  • Use electrical hoist systems to lift and hang full dryer bags on storage rails to maximize wash load production.
  • Dry specific linen items on specific formulas, monitor dryer personal computer pad temperatures, and record all dryer loads onto a log.
  • Transport linen via basket to the laundry finish area, consolidate near‑empty baskets, clean the bottom of finish baskets, and return empty baskets to the washroom.
  • Perform additional work as determined by the Group Leader, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and safe manner, and switch chemical feed lines for washing chemicals when needed.
  • Complete LA‑1 or LA‑2 work, if requested, without reduction in pay.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic reading and writing English required.
  • No formal training required; ability to follow instructions necessary.
  • Two months of on‑the‑job training to learn operation of washers, dryers, and related equipment.

Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to lint and extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
  • Continuous standing, walking, heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy loads of wet and dry linen.
  • Physical ability to operate industrial‑sized dryers.
Compensation

Pay Range: $19.43 – $19.87 per hour
