Job Summary

Under general direction and supervision of a foreperson or up-line personnel, performs manual work doing a variety of semi-skilled tasks, not of a journeyperson level; performs routine custodial work and general janitorial duties as assigned; and related work as required.

This position is first shift 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Performs a variety of duties requiring manual skills or special knowledge acquired on the job.

* Performs semi-skilled tasks, not of a journeyperson level, including, but not limited to, rough carpentry work, painting, laying out water pipes and hydrants and drilling rocks.

* Performs routine custodial work and janitorial duties as directed including, but not limited to, general cleaning of areas assigned, moving furniture and/or equipment, making minor repairs, cleaning sidewalks of debris and snow/ice.

* Assists foreman of a crew for a specific task such as making a highway patch or removing snow.

* Performs skilled work and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Must possess and maintain a valid state vehicle operator's license. Must also attain a CDL permit within six (6) months in position and must attain CDL with air brakes endorsement within nine (9) months in position, except in cases in which a bona fide physical limitation prevents attainment of such CDL permit and/or CDL with air brakes endorsement.

* Successful completion of Confined Space certification within six (6) months of appointment.

* Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to keep routine records.

* Experience in performing light and heavy manual labor and in using hand tools; ability to conduct preventative maintenance, not requiring licensing.

* Knowledge of simple building maintenance, cleaning methods, materials, and equipment

* Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

* Must be able to provide customer service to the public professionally.
