- Serve as a key team member in the University’s compliance with federal and state civil rights laws.
- Oversee, manage, and respond to reports of protected class discrimination and harassment, including sexual and gender-based misconduct.
- Act as the primary recipient of all reports and complaints, initial contact person, and manage all resolution processes as a member of the Office for Equity Compliance and Reporting (OECR).
- Report directly to the AVP for Institutional Equity, Accessibility, and Compliance and work closely with the Director of Investigations and Title IX Coordinator to make initial recommendations and evaluate how to respond to reports.
- Serve as the primary entry point for University community members and other covered parties to report or seek information on policies related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; provide information and seek/receive support and interim measures.
- Exercise independent decision making on initial disposition within OECR and determine/implement supportive measures in collaboration with the Director of Investigations and Title IX Coordinator.
- Collaborate with the Office of General Counsel, University Human Resources, Campus Life, Athletics, and other campus partners on a case-by-case basis.
- Develop informational materials and implement training programs for faculty, staff, and students on reporting and adjudication processes related to equal opportunity, non-discrimination, Title IX, and related topics (Senior Title IX Officer).
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a field related to the primary duties of the position, plus 1–3 years of related experience in intake of matters, overseeing progress, meeting deadlines, and public speaking in higher education, non-profit, or other relevant settings.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be used to evaluate candidates who do not expressly meet the minimum qualifications.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to gender-based discrimination and harassment and sexual misconduct, including FERPA, Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, and related laws and regulations.
- Ability to apply these laws to individual reports and complaints and to assess situations to determine appropriate responses.
- Experience and ability in managing confidential information and independently managing a significant caseload.
- At least two years of related experience in higher education non-discrimination compliance.
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed practices and typical university policies related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
- Knowledge of contemporary issues in discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in the university setting.
- Knowledge of the Maxient software.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents and apply legal principles to policy and procedures.
- Ability to work with individuals of varying identities and educational levels and to provide effective educational programs and communicate policy information across constituencies.
- Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress; strong conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated discretion, tact, professionalism, and neutrality in highly sensitive situations involving allegations of sexual misconduct.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff at all levels and work independently and collaboratively across the organization.
