Summary:
The Nursing (RN) Clinical Manager is responsible for management and oversight of their assigned operational unit(s). The RN Clinical Manager translates and supports the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department delivery of nursing services on designated patient care units. They have delegated authority to make decisions in patient care delivery, HR management, and budgetary compliance. Knowledge and compliance with Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct. 24‑hour responsibility for patient units, directing and coordinating resources for patient care. Supports a trauma‑informed, least restrictive environment, free from coercion or discipline. Supports a culture of safety, reporting of incidents, staffing, communication, and prevention of adverse outcomes.
Monitors patient care assignments based on need and acuity. Sets strategic vision, defines unit goals, evaluates progress. Schedules staff meetings, provides operational info, quality updates. Develops employees through educational opportunities and growth experiences. Monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies. Manages unit‑level quality improvement implementation. Participates on committees and teams. Evaluates staff performance, provides feedback, follows counseling processes. Participates in Nursing, Educational, and Research programs.
Supports orientation of new staff, monitors performance. Maintains unit budgets, analyzes variance reports, controls expenses, ensures alignment with fiscal strategies. Interviews applicants, recommends hiring conditions, coordinates with HR. Assesses and evaluates customer requirements and responds appropriately. Holds Safety Care Level 1 certification as required.
BSN or active matriculation in BSN Program;
Master’s Degree preferred. Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or another RN‑Compact state. Required certifications per department standards. Demonstrated knowledge of patient care across the lifespan with consideration of aging, human development, and cultural patterns. Three to five years of relevant experience.
