SUMMARY

The Director of Operating Room (OR), Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing Services is responsible for the overall management of the OR, including surgical teams (Registered Nurses and Surgical Technicians), and Sterile Processing Services. This role ensures the delivery of safe and high-quality surgical care to both pediatric and adult trauma patients, including those in a Level I trauma center.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and manage daily operations of the OR, Endoscopy and Sterile Processing Services departments, ensuring optimal workflow and leveraging technology.
  • Integrate OR and Sterile Processing Services under a unified vision that fosters collaboration, open communication and mutual respect.
  • Develop and implement staffing plans, manage recruitment, and ensure staffing levels align with operational needs.
  • Identify and update competencies for staff to align with operational and quality goals.
  • Oversee retention strategies and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality surgical care to pediatric and adult trauma patients.
  • Stay current with clinical advancements, implementing evidence-based strategies and integrating best practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical schedules, patient flow, and sterilization processes.
  • Drive performance improvements using data to monitor and adjust staffing, workflows, and processes.
  • Maintain standardized clinical pathways for intraoperative care.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, identify improvement areas, and implement quality initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee risk mitigation, infection control, and trauma care standards.
  • Collaborate system-wide for standardization of workflows and best practices.
  • Promote culture of collaboration and shared learning.
  • Conduct managerial audits, evaluate KPIs, and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in budgeting, cost efficiency, revenue cycle coordination, and financial reporting.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders and oversee technology integration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in nursing;
    Master's preferred. Licensure as RN in Rhode Island. Certifications in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred.
  • Experience:

    5-7 years in perioperative services, at least 3 years in leadership/management. Experience managing both OR and Sterile Processing Services, preferably in a Level I trauma center.
  • Demonstrated application of Highly Reliable Organizations principles.
  • Experience driving clinical outcomes improvements and operational efficiency.
