Overview
The Patient Scheduler reports to the Office Manager, performing a variety of clerical, scheduling and recordkeeping duties. - Answers telephone calls, routes calls and/or takes messages, initiates telephone calls, as requested.
- Enters and edits all patient information into computer, including patient type and patient activity.
- Follows all clinical informatics downtime procedures for entering data into patient’s electronic profile.
- Obtains missing patient data from nursing units or outside facilities, as needed.
- Schedules office and testing appointments using Invision/ECW.
- Obtains written physician orders from physicians, physicians’ offices, and patients, and verifies for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintains all pertinent paperwork on each patient in a daily file.
- Calls the physician’s office or appropriate location to obtain required patient’s history and physical information, if appropriate.
- Reviews physician/testing order for accuracy. Informs Office Manager of discrepancies.
- Screens patient, answers questions and gives routine instructions to patients, physicians’ offices and hospital personnel regarding testing preparations.
- Instructs patients/physician offices on proper registration procedure and exam prep.
- Provides testing clerical support staff with orders.
- Provides management with reports.
- Contacts physicians’ offices regarding patient cancellations or no-shows.
- Assists in the training of staff.
- Participates in monthly staff meetings.
- Basic knowledge: High school graduate plus one year formal training, or equivalent.
- Typing/data entry required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Detail oriented.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff of all levels.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
- Experience: Two years’ clerical experience preferably in health care environment.
Physical Requirements
- Normal office environment.
- Requires standing, bending, and sitting.
- Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment.

Pay Range
: $18.13-$29.90
