Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Senior Research Project Director, the Research Assistant (RA) will conduct specific assigned research and programmatic activities associated with various clinical and public health projects. Projects will include those related to HIV prevention, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and substance use. The RA will interact directly with patients and may also provide services including working with the individual to overcome common barriers in the healthcare system such as applying for financial assistance, addressing cost‑insurance concerns, providing transportation vouchers, or addressing other barriers to engaging in STI care and substance use or mental health treatment.

The RA will work to support clinical and community‑based activities in concordance with statewide efforts to reduce HIV and STI incidence, including prevention, detection, and retention in care. Responsibilities
  • Assisting with data entry and ensuring quality of information collected for research, including management of protected health information (PHI) in accordance with hospital policy and state and federal law.
  • Working independently as well as in collaboration with a diverse research and clinical team, completing various administrative and grants‑related tasks with keen attention to detail, and navigating within a large, interdisciplinary hospital‑based system.
  • Contributing to the preparation of human subjects’ research protocols for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review, working in compliance with IRB policies, as well as preparing manuscripts for peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Engaging in direct patient care, including recruiting for research studies and clinical programs, administering research surveys and interventions, and assisting with STI/PrEP navigation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree required; academic concentration in biology, public health, psychology, sociology, or related field preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to navigate PC software, i.e., proficiency in typing/word processing, utilizing spreadsheets for data management, and data entry required; familiarity with building and managing REDCap databases preferred.
  • Excellent ability to gather and synthesize complex information, strong writing skills and demonstrated attention to detail required.
  • Strong personal initiative as a self‑starter required, including demonstrated ability to work independently and motivation to learn and comfort interfacing with STI clinic patients.
  • Scientific or empirical knowledge of HIV and STIs, as well as substance use treatment.
Experience
  • Prior research experience, preferably in public health or related fields, strongly preferred.
  • Interviewing and surveying experience preferred.
  • Experience in academic writing and biostatistics preferred.
  • Meaningful experience participating in and serving communities of color, LGBTQ and transgender communities, and other structurally oppressed populations; strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
Work Environment and

Physical Requirements

Able to function in an office environment. Requires walking, navigation of stairs, and standing intermittently throughout the day. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer and other common equipment.

Independent Action

Performs independently within the Department’s policies and practices. Meets regularly with supervisor for guidance and support.

None.

Pay Range

$40,725.05-$67,199.50
