SUMMARY:

The Patient Scheduler reports to the Office Manager, performing a variety of clerical, scheduling and record‑keeping duties. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answer telephone calls, route calls, take messages, and initiate calls as requested.
  • Enter and edit all patient information into the computer system, including patient type and activity.
  • Follow all clinical informatics downtime procedures for entering data into patients’ electronic profiles.
  • Obtain missing patient data from nursing units or outside facilities, as needed.
  • Schedule office and testing appointments using Invision/Ecw.
  • Obtain written physician orders and verify their accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain all pertinent paperwork for each patient in a daily file.
  • Contact the physician’s office or appropriate location to obtain required patient history and physical information.
  • Review physician/testing orders for accuracy and inform the Office Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Screen patients, answer questions, and provide routine instructions regarding testing preparations.
  • Instruct patients and physician offices on proper registration procedures and exam preparation.
  • Provide testing clerical support staff with orders.
  • Generate reports for management.
  • Contact physicians’ offices regarding patient cancellations or no‑shows.
  • Assist in training staff.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BASIC KNOWLEDGE
  • High school graduate plus one year of formal training, or equivalent.
  • Typing/data entry skills required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural diversity.
EXPERIENCE
  • Two years of clerical experience, preferably in a health care environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Normal office environment.
  • Requires standing, bending, and sitting.
  • Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use a computer keyboard and other common office equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None.

Pay Range: $18.13–$29.90
