Overview
Unit Secretary 3B position at Brown University Health. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, this role provides clerical and administrative support, coordinating patient activity and information flow from admission to discharge or transfer.
Responsibilities- Communicate clearly and promptly with unit staff, physicians, patients, and visitors.
- Greet patients and visitors professionally, handle consumer dissatisfaction, and report unauthorized personnel.
- Answer phone calls, record messages accurately, and transfer calls or pages appropriately.
- Enter and edit patient information in the electronic health record, including vitals, isolation status, and activity.
- Maintain integrity of the medical record and complete Medical Record Review Checklist daily.
- Order, maintain, and manage supplies, dietary orders, and educational materials.
- Prepare and send discharge paperwork, fax necessary documentation to external agencies, and support patient discharge to rehabilitative centers or nursing homes.
- Assist nurse manager with staff education records, mandatory tests, and training compliance.
- Generate and review patient charges, report variances, and manage revenue generation.
- Support unit quality indicators, conduct Environment of Care rounds, and resolve unit-level issues.
- Complete general clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and faxing as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient computer skills for entering patient data and generating reports.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks swiftly.
- Clear English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Minimum of 6 months clerical experience in a health care environment preferred.
Physical Requirements
Position requires intermittent standing and walking; may require lifting up to 20 pounds. Exposed to patient care environment.
Pay Range$17.69-$27.90 per hour
