SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Staff Nurse, provides direct patient care to endoscopy patients. Assists the endoscopy team with positioning patients, assisting endoscopy team with procedures, preparing and cleaning instruments and restocking of room and cart supplies. ResponsibilitiesConsistently applies corporate values of respect, honesty, and fairness, and the pursuit of excellence. Acts in accordance with the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct. Assists Staff Nurse with nursing processes including data collection, nursing management plan, and patient monitoring. Prepares endoscopy room, assisting with procedures, providing instruments, removing polyps, obtaining specimens, operating cautery, dilating procedures, and operating advanced endoscopic tools.
Maintains aseptic technique, checks equipment, handles specimens, performs high‑level disinfection, and performs basic maintenance. Monitors disinfecting solutions, maintains equipment information for regulatory readiness, assists vital signs and point‑of‑care testing, and performs post‑procedure care. Cleans and restocks room between cases, maintains cleanliness, assists patient transport, performs treatments under supervision, assists unit function, participates in quality improvement, maintains confidentiality, and performs related duties as required.
High school diploma or equivalent. Current Basic Life Support certification. Current RI registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant or experience in Endoscopy, Surgical or other relevant technical role preferred. Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) Program preferred. GI Technical Specialist certification expected within one year. Demonstrates knowledge and skills for patient care across life span with sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Six months related experience in an outpatient procedural setting preferred.
Physical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Hazards minimized through adherence to safety procedures.
Independent ActionWorks under Staff Nurse supervision within policy scope; refers complex problems to supervisor.

Pay Range$19.58–$32.31
