Summary:

Responsible for the care and safety of assigned children. As a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, assumes primary residential care counselor role. Responsible for input into the formulation of a therapeutic residential treatment plan, and the implementation, observation, and documentation of this program under the direction of the Residential Care Supervisor. Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment; participate in the development and operationalization of the residential care plan for assigned children according to Department and Program policies.
  • Document level of child observation as ordered by the physician or Program Director each shift; supervise daily routines and assist with activities of daily living.
  • Identify, report, and resolve potential problems; demonstrate crisis management skills and timely verbal reporting to the Residential Care Supervisor or Nursing Supervisor/Program Nurse with documentation in the child s chart.
  • Intervene in disruptive or unsafe situations with timely therapeutic interventions; adhere to all Hospital, Departmental, and Program policies and procedures.
  • Attend Program meetings; maintain current certifications in crisis management, CPR, ERS, Safety & OSHA; participate in staff development meetings as assigned.
  • Contribute to the residential child care planning process under the Residential Care Supervisor; participate in initial admission interviews and support the therapeutic alliance with child and family on admission.
  • Complete initial milieu assessment within 24 hours; develop initial problem list and residential care plan within 24 hours of admission; review and revise plans daily as needed.
  • Communicate individual child residential treatment plans to Program staff and other multidisciplinary treatment providers; participate in DPCs, treatment team, and shift reports.
  • Document significant child/family observations in the chart in a timely fashion; support staff development and contribute to residential care plan/behavioral management; assist with activities of daily living and personal hygiene appropriate to the child s level of competence.
  • Set consistent, therapeutic limits within hospital/Program standards; implement behavioral programs in collaboration with off-line clinicians; organize Program activities; model appropriate staff/child interactions.
  • Handle crisis situations safely using the least restrictive, safe patient care approach; seek supervision and incorporate feedback to improve performance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a Human Service field; other education/experience may be substituted at the Hiring Manager s discretion.
  • Knowledge to provide care to patients across the lifespan with consideration of aging, development, and cultural patterns.
  • Six months to one year of direct child care experience with emotionally impaired youth.
  • Current Bradley Hospital Crisis Management certification or enrollment in Bradley Hospital course.
  • Current CPR certification; current ERS and OSHA certifications.
