We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support their financial operations and contribute to their mission of social justice and equity.
Job DescriptionAs a Staff Accountant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and efficiency of the organization. Working closely with the Finance team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing financial data, and supporting budgeting and reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving the community, strong accounting skills, and a commitment to social justice.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.
Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process accounts payable invoices, review expense reports, and ensure timely payments to vendors. Manage accounts receivable, including billing, invoicing, and collections.
General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain the general ledger and perform month-end close procedures. Reconcile accounts, post journal entries, and ensure accuracy of financial data.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Track budget-to-actual performance, analyze variances, and provide insights to management.
Grant Accounting: Monitor and track grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance requirements. Prepare financial reports for grantors and assist in grant proposal budgeting.
Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning. Prepare ad-hoc reports and presentations for management as needed.
Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure compliance with internal policies, grant requirements, and regulatory standards. Assist in the coordination of audits and provide documentation and support as requested.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
