Handling multi-state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. In this role, you will build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries. The opportunityOur Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi-state, sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s here you’ll find everything you need to continue to develop as a multi-state sales and use tax practitioner. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.
Your Key ResponsibilitiesThere is no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Manager in the COE. You’ll spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities, and tasks. Clients will turn to you for up-to-the-minute tax advice they can always rely on. To make that happen, you’ll work in a highly collaborative culture where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is essential.
Skills And Attributes For Success- Research clients’ business operations and build long-lasting relationships
- Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
- Identify potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicate these to clients
- Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
- Develop clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries
- Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims
- Participate on a motivated team of professionals
- Manage a motivated team, guaranteeing they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools
- Experience managing budgets, people and projects
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects
- Strong influencing skills and the confidence to question existing processes
- Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment
- An achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or be a member of a state bar

- Base salary range: $105,100 to $192,600 for the U.S.; adjusted ranges for specific metros.
