Coneco Engineers & Scientists is actively seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our team at the Providence, RI office. We are a consulting firm focused on environmental management, civil engineering, ecological permitting, and land surveying, providing exceptional environmental services to diverse local and national companies for over 30 years. We operate across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

This role allows participation in environmental assessment and remediation projects, field activities, oversight of subcontractors, technical reporting, and data evaluation to advance projects towards regulatory closure. The position demands strong attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving skills, compliance with state/federal regulations and client requirements, and effective communication.
Qualifications- 0-5 years of experience
- B.S. in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- Familiarity with ArcGIS and AutoCAD
- OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER training is a plus but not required
- Flexibility to work on diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to observe, document, and communicate field conditions
- Self‑motivated; willing to work independently or collaboratively to solve problems
- Ability to perform field work in various weather and terrain conditions; flexibility and preparedness are required
- Must pass background check, drug screening, with an insurable driving record and acceptable motor vehicle record
- Conduct sampling activities (soil, air, groundwater, surface water, building materials)
- Oversee subsurface drilling and sampling collection
- Provide remedial action oversight/direction to environmental service field crews
- Respond to emergency releases of petroleum products, mercury, PCBs, etc.
- Oversee underground storage tank removals and prepare closure reports
- Perform industrial hygiene and air/dust monitoring associated with construction and utility work
- Operate field equipment for monitoring, screening, and sampling purposes
- Analyze and interpret data to determine next actions
- Draft site plans, sampling plans, and related diagrams
- Prepare technical and regulatory reports for clients and agencies
- Communicate with clients and subcontractors as needed
- Attend required health and safety training and obtain necessary certifications
- Conduct ASTM‑compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments & Phase II Investigations
