We believe transportation is more than movement; it’s the foundation of connected, thriving communities. As part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you’ll help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
Primary Responsibilities- Work as a member of the civil engineering design team on projects serving clients in the New England area.
- Contribute to the design of civil engineering projects, prioritizing the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
- Familiarity with applicable design and safety standards and application of best practices.
- Prepare plans, detail drawings, and quantity estimation for projects of various sizes and complexities.
- Engage in highway and local roadway design, green infrastructure, stormwater management, drainage & grading, and multi‑modal transportation designs.
- Collaborate with diverse specialists to solve complex mobility challenges.
- 4+ years of experience in Civil Engineering with emphasis on roadway and utility design, grading, site layout, stormwater management, complete streets, green infrastructure, and construction management.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer certification.
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and exemplary work ethic.
- Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
- Preferred experience with MassDOT, MBTA, and Massachusetts municipalities; recommended experience with other New England state DOTs.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; recommended experience with Micro Station Open Roads.
- At least one prior role in the AE industry preferred.
- Local candidates given preference.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position.
- Hands‑on experience with highways and roads CAD software such as Bentley Concept Station, Open Roads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks, and Civil 3D.
- MS Office knowledge.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, conceptual alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans.
