Reporting to the Associate Director of SEI Education and Operations, the Assistant Director leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of assigned SEI initiatives, driving innovation in equity‑focused programming, training, and communications across campus. The Assistant Director will develop and assess impactful programs for the RISD community, support long‑term strategic priorities, and help embed inclusive practices through capacity‑building efforts. With strong project‑management skills and a commitment to fostering belonging, this position also plays a key role in SEI’s communications strategy, creating accessible, inclusive content and cultivating partnerships that extend the reach and visibility of SEI’s work at RISD.
EssentialFunctions / Duties
- Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of assigned strategic SEI initiatives by setting clear goals, timelines, and measurable outcomes; apply research and data insights to innovate programming, optimize internal processes, and support campus‑wide equity efforts.
- Develop, deliver, and assess impactful SEI training programs, toolkits, and events for staff, faculty, and students, integrating community feedback and emerging best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement by researching and piloting new approaches to equity‑focused programs and training, assessing their effectiveness, and making recommendations for their integration into broader institutional strategies.
- Support the Associate Director with operationalizing SEI’s long‑term vision, ensuring alignment between daily operations, strategic priorities, and campus‑wide equity goals.
- Establish scalable systems and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent delivery and sustainability of SEI programming and training across departments.
- Support the institutionalization of inclusive practices across divisions and departments through consultation, collaboration, and capacity‑building efforts.
- Manage the development and execution of SEI’s communications, creating content and best‑practice templates for digital platforms, newsletters, and promotional materials to ensure accessible, inclusive, and impactful messaging.
- Monitor engagement metrics and feedback to refine communication strategies and demonstrate SEI’s impact to internal and external audiences.
- Strengthen SEI’s visibility and influence by cultivating strategic partnerships with campus and community partners, leveraging collaboration to enhance program reach and effectiveness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in educational programming, learning and development or similar field, with demonstrated knowledge or experience with social equity and inclusion initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment, with the ability to connect with others and build relationships rooted in mutual trust through active listening. Must also be dedicated to fostering a strong sense of belonging within the RISD community.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with individuals across a wide range of identities and roles.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Zoom, Canva, with comfort maintaining and updating website content and learning new tools and systems. Familiarity with and ability to utilize social media platforms preferred.
- Strong project management skills and comfort with data‑driven decision making.
