Overview
SUMMARY:
Reports to the Medical Director; will provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient, and accurate service. Is involved with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations. Mentors clinical personnel, and serves as a liaison with patients, staff, providers, and leadership. Can perform independently and as part of a treatment team. - Assess, plan, and treat patient needs within an urgent care setting and triage patients to differentiate between immediate and less urgent care for adults and children 18 months and up.
- Effectively manage private, pre-employment and workers compensation patients.
- Order medically indicated labs, x-rays, ECGs, point-of-care tests, injections, referrals, and prescribe medications/treatments.
- Perform digital blocks and local anesthesia. Perform minor surgical procedures such as lacerations and incision and drainage.
- Initiate intravenous insertion for IV hydration and/or medication administration.
- Consult with other Providers on medical care as necessary.
- Maintain and adequate patient flow on-site by directing and communicating clearly with assisting clinical staff.
- Maintain quality assurance of charts and testing.
- Handle telephone calls and follow up care about services rendered from patients, providers, company accounts, as well as other clinical staff.
- Attend required provider/staff meetings.
- Maintain excellent and timely patient records for clinical use, billing use, Physician and peer review.
- Educate patients about preventative care and the prescribed treatments.
- Manage patients who do not require complex medical management or specialized treatment.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, and implement individual patient care appropriate to the age and specific needs of the patient.
- Communicates appropriately with the person served regardless of their age.
- Complete charting and required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Active participation in the development/review of office policies and procedures as well as instructional handouts.
- Promotes a safety-conscious work force.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical school (MD or DO)
- Board certified/Board eligible in Family Practice or Emergency Medicine
- Holds current licensure in the State of Rhode Island:
Medical License - State Controlled Substance Registration
- Unrestricted and current DEA
- Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of basic emergency department, internal medicine, generalist, occupational medicine, and family practice procedures required.
- Organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow.
- Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with patients and families, clients, coworkers, clinical staff and other physicians.
- Progressive thinking for budget, training and quality issues.
- Strong leadership qualities.
Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine experience preferred, traditional primary care acceptable. Must have experience and interest in caring for children ages 18 months and above.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital, physicians office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
