Development Associate
The Brown University Division of Advancement seeks qualified applicants for the position of Development Associate.
This position provides advanced administrative support to the Assistant Vice President of Development and the Senior Director of Development, assisting them in building an engaged and supportive community of alumni, parents, and friends at Brown University. The Development Associate will handle most administrative duties, which include coordinating donor meetings, preparing donor briefing materials, managing follow-up actions, and ensuring seamless communication with colleagues, alumni, donors, and campus partners.
The role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, strong writing abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with discretion and professionalism. The Development Associate will also assist with facilitating team meetings and retreats, processing expenses, budgeting, travel coordination, document preparation, and managing complex calendars.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional administrative experience. Or experience in a related field such as alumni relations, fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, sales, customer service, development, etc.
- Ability to learn and advocate for Inclusive fundraising principles.
- Proficient with audio/visual and presentation platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Web Ex, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Expertise in Microsoft and Google platforms, especially Google Calendar and email, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience coordinating complex travel arrangements and calendars. Demonstrated ability to work with data and experience managing budgets.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and project and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment with emphasis on accuracy and deadline adherence. Ability to effectively and efficiently multitask and prioritize workload.
- Highly collaborative and strong interpersonal skills in building relationships with external and internal constituents.
- Ability to apply tact and maintain confidentiality. Customer-focused, customer service orientation.
- The incumbent must possess tact, discretion, sound judgment, and initiative. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Comfort in dealing with a wide range of University constituencies.
- Initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Experience in a university setting.
- Knowledge of BSR Advance and Blackbaud.
