Primary
Purpose:
Direct, manage, and implement the District’s comprehensive safety, security, and emergency preparedness program. This role ensures a safe learning environment for students, staff, and visitors by overseeing mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery phases of emergency management while maintaining a strong partnership with local law enforcement.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Texas Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), preferred
- Master Peace Officer Certificate (TCOLE), preferred
- Clear and valid Texas driver’s license Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)
- Completion of FEMA Emergency Management training and certification, preferred
- Deep knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and FEMA procedures
- Working knowledge of security technology including access control, surveillance cameras, and video exporting
- Expert knowledge of Texas criminal law, Texas Education Code, and school safety mandates
- Exceptional public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain emotional control under extreme pressure
- Three (3) years of successful law enforcement or public safety experience with progressive experience in law enforcement, military, or corporate security, preferred
- At least 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or command capacity
- Experience as a School Resource Officer (SRO) or within a school setting, highly preferred
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting with occasional bending, stooping, and reaching; frequent keyboarding
Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders
Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)
Environment: Work is performed in an office environment; frequent on-call and after-hours work; occasional district-wide travel; may be required to be on-call 24 hours a day
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under high-stress situations; ability to handle frequent interruptions and irregular prolonged hours
