Job Description

Minimum Salary: $71,122/Days: 205

Primary

Purpose:

The Instructional Coach provides targeted instructional coaching and support to teachers and collaborative teams in the implementation of effective instructional practices and continuous improvement efforts. The instructional coach applies effective coaching practice to build teacher capacity through job-embedded professional learning. The instructional coach positively impacts the overall quality of classroom instruction thereby impacting student growth and achievement.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate in assigned content area

Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Extensive expertise in content-area instruction and backward design curriculum approach
  • Strong understanding of instructional coaching models and partnership principles
  • Ability to work within and provide support to Professional Learning Communities
  • Experience applying adult learning theory and effective professional learning practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with data analysis and using data to inform instructional decisions

Experience:

Three or more years of classroom experience is required

Five or more years of classroom experience in teaching is preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional and Program Management

  • Provide ongoing support and professional development to collaborative teams, integrating coaching strategies and protocols into team meetings to promote collaboration, inquiry, and reflection.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instructional coaching as well as ongoing support and feedback to teachers to improve instruction practices.
  • Support teachers and teams in the implementation of the district’s guaranteed and viable curriculum using course maps, unit framework documents, and instructional resources.
  • Collaboratively develop and deliver professional development workshops and training sessions focused on evidence-based literacy instructional strategies.
  • Promote effective teaching practices aligned to the district’s instructional philosophy through classroom visits, co-teaching, demonstration lessons, and participation in team meetings.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and other collaborative structures to support continuous improvement aligned with district goals and instructional priorities.
  • Communication

  • Create conditions that foster trusting relationships conducive to instructional coaching principles.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Professional Growth and Development

  • Commit to continued professional learning.
  • Stay abreast of current research and best instructional practices.
  • Participate in ongoing collaboration between Teaching and Learning and other departments.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and serve on committees as required.

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

    Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

    Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

    Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

    Environment: Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel

    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
