Responsibilities- The position may be assigned a variety of fundamental food service duties. Typical assignments include patient tray line (meal assembly), dish room, utilities (floors and trash), cafeteria server, and cold food production.
- Work as a team to deliver high quality food and service to patients and customers.
- Prepares all work areas for operation per task assignment, including sanitizing, maintaining sanitizer strength, restocking, and keeping areas clean throughout the shift.
- Set up areas with utensils, restock, clean and organize, maintaining cleanliness throughout the shift.
- Produce and maintain attractive, appetizing and quality food and beverage products; follow menu cycle, proper portions, and standardized recipes; use leftovers with first in, first out (FIFO).
- Greet customers, take orders, serve efficiently, and address complaints politely; seek management assistance when needed.
- Maintain sanitation, safety, and quality control guidelines as set forth by departmental policies.
- Document temperatures of equipment (refrigerators, dish machines, etc.) as assigned and alert facilities/management of any malfunctioning equipment.
- Properly operate, clean, and store equipment; properly store and label food items and chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: see location-specific requirements below.
For West Virginia locations (excluding Berkeley/Morgan County):
- Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department prior to starting OR obtain a Temporary FSWP no later than the first worked day and a permanent FSWP within 1 week of start date or next available class.
For Ohio locations:
- Obtain a Serv Safe Person In Charge certification within 90 days of hire.
For Maryland locations:
- Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department, surrounding counties, Serv Safe, or State Food Safety prior to starting OR obtain a Temporary FSWP no later than the first worked day and a permanent FSWP within 1 week of start date or next available class.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Ability to push fully loaded tray cart (approximately 250 lbs.).
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

- Requires patient interaction with some conditions/appearance that may be distressing.
- Enter isolation precautions in patient rooms with proper protective equipment.
- Kitchen environment that is often noisy.
- Ability to understand written and oral communication.
- Computer skills: basic computer components (keyboard, mouse, tablet) and applications such as Microsoft Word.
- Telephone skills: use of speaker phones, headsets, and telephone etiquette.
