Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for staging detailed parts, building complete accessory “kits” for primary members, and safely operating overhead cranes and forklifts to move material throughout the shop.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel of Virginia’s core priorities:
Safety, Quality, Production - Separate and organize parts in designated staging areas to prevent loss, damage, or mix-ups
- Build complete “kits” of accessory components required for each member
- Stage material at workstations to maintain continuous workflow
- Read and understand list to calculate material size and length
- Understand units of measure, general mathematical equations
- Using overhead cranes and forklifts
- Operate equipment / machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yard
- Use grinder to clean parts
- Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
- Other duties as assigned

While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment.
Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
Position performs work in the shop with some yard setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
