This position has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge/skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes.

Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Nurse (RN) - Level I & II, as defined in the job description.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at a competent level necessary to provide care relevant to the patient(s) under their care, and apply principles of growth and development over the life span. The incumbent must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to age-specific needs. This role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • ADN, Diploma, BSN or higher degree
  • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of nursing experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize patient s diagnosis, problems, and issues, and mutual goals to meet the needs of the patient and healthcare team.
  • Serve as resource for patient and family learning needs.
  • Coordinate with the interprofessional team to manage changing priorities.
  • Function as independent team member to provide safe, quality care for consumer/patient.
  • Mentor colleagues in the acquisition of clinical knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgement.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of systems that support the patient care planning process.
  • Lead interprofessional teams to collaborate and consult effectively.
  • Design innovations to improve outcomes.
  • Assist other nurses to develop research skills.
  • Participate in collaborative planning to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered health care.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of and adherence to policies that promote patient health and safety.
  • Advocate for healthcare consumers  rights to inform decision making and self-determination.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills within the community/healthcare arena.
  • Engage the healthcare consumer and other interprofessional team members in holistic, culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Integrate knowledge from global and environmental factors into the assessment process.
  • Identify resources/actions to appropriately address cultural situations.
  • Recognize personal bias.
  • Disseminate educational findings and experiences with colleagues.
  • Achieve a higher level of education/training, demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Identify appropriate resources for ethical dilemmas and advance ethical nursing practice.
  • Required competencies include demonstration of regularly serving as a charge nurse and/or precepting new staff or nursing students.

Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements:

  • Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through computer-based training, in-services, and competency validation.

Physical Requirements:

  • NIOSH guidance encourages minimizing manual patient lifting; safe handling uses lift equipment and aids as indicated by patient profile.
  • Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, standing, walking, and carrying 40+ lbs.
  • Normal visual and hearing acuity required.
