Job Summary
RN II 7p – 7a CCU at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital
. The RN is responsible for delivering nursing care to critical‑care patients during evening and overnight shifts, using the nursing process and independent clinical judgment for self‑care and delegated providers.
- Prioritizes patient diagnoses, problems, and goals to meet needs of the patient and healthcare team.
- Serves as a resource for patient and family learning needs.
- Coordinates with the interprofessional team to manage changing priorities.
- Functions as an independent team member to provide safe, quality care for consumers/patients.
- Mentors colleagues in acquiring clinical knowledge, skills, judgment, and research abilities.
- Participates in development and continuous improvement of systems supporting patient‑care planning.
- Leads interprofessional teams to collaborate and consult effectively.
- Designs innovations to improve patient outcomes.
- Advocates for consumer rights and supports informed decision making.
- Demonstrates leadership within the community/healthcare arena.
- Engages consumers and team members in culturally sensitive data collection.
- Integrates knowledge of global and environmental factors into assessment.
- Identifies resources to address cultural situations and ethical dilemmas.
- Regularly assumes the role of charge nurse or preceptor for new staff or students.
- Current registered nurse license issued by the state of employment or a multi‑state RN license via the eNLC.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- Two (2) years of registered nursing experience.
- Experience in a critical‑care or related environment preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) or higher.
- Advanced practice or specialty certifications (e.g., CCU, Acute Care).
- Manual patient handling limited to 35 lbs; use lift equipment for all transfers and repositioning.
- Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials or equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
- Visual acuity, hearing, and overall physical fitness within normal ranges.
- Work protracted or irregular shifts, including night and weekend hours.
- Exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and the deceased.
- Work with electrical hazards associated with patient‑care equipment.
- Interpersonal communication, negotiation, conflict resolution.
- Strong motivation for continuous self‑development.
- Teamwork orientation towards shared goals.
- Efficient delivery of care using clinical practice and critical thinking.
- Flexibility to respond to changes in workload, staffing, and scheduling.
- Independent work ability with minimal supervision.
- Resilience under stressful conditions and adaptation to changing assignments.
The CAPE program is a system‑wide clinical ladder that enhances professional development and rewards quality performance. Progression is based on experience, education, certification, and demonstration of charge or preceptor responsibilities. Advancement levels are:
