Position SummaryThe Patient Safety Science Therapeutic Area Lead will lead and manage a team of scientists within a therapeutic area in Worldwide Patient Safety. The role ensures the safety of medicines through pharmacovigilance, pharmaco-epidemiology, and risk management; oversees pre-marketing and post-marketing product support; ensures compliance with global regulatory requirements; and drives strategic initiatives to enhance safety science processes.
Duties & Responsibilities- General Product Scientific Support:
Partner with TA Leads and the Head of Patient Safety Sciences to plan, lead, and advance programs and talent. - Oversee a team of safety scientists and risk management experts globally within the assigned TA.
- Ensure adequate support to Safety Management Teams for monitoring and managing the safety profile, risk identification, and risk planning of products.
- Ensure analytic support resources for evaluating safety profiles of BMS assets.
- Mentor individuals and teams in project management, SMT requirements, core signal detection, safety data/Health authority queries, and risk management planning.
- Provide strategic guidance on Global/EU/Local Risk Management Plans (RMPs), additional risk minimization measures (aRMM), and pharmacovigilance activities (aPVA).
- Oversee development, maintenance, and availability of signal detection and analytic tools and resources.
- Provide expertise to teams drafting safety sections/deliverables to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Cross-Functional
Activities:
Provide subject matter expertise for process improvement and cross-functional safety initiatives, including SOPs and procedural documents. - Drive interactions with key line functions to support safety activities between Safety Science and Stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain external relationships with key partners within BMS and thought leaders.
- Represent BMS safety science in external groups (regulatory bodies and industry trade associations).
- Leadership and Team Development:
Coach others, provide regular performance feedback, and foster a collaborative learning environment to ensure high-quality pharmacovigilance delivery. - Provide timely information to enable accurate decision-making within the TA.

- Health science related degree required. Advanced degree (e.g., Pharm
D, PhD, MD) preferred. - Minimum of 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience with significant global safety risk management exposure.
- Line management experience required.
- Thorough understanding of global pharmacovigilance regulations, particularly DSUR, PBRER, and Risk Management Planning.
- Exemplary leadership skills and ability to foster partnerships across functional areas and organizational boundaries.
- Proven ability to build high-performance teams in a matrix environment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and listening skills; ability to think creatively.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and ability to manage multiple priorities and uncertainty.
- Effective time management; ability to handle conflict and achieve cooperation.

This position requires up to 5-10% travel.
Compensation Overview
Locations include Madison (Giralda) NJ and Princeton, NJ: $217,520 - $263,577. Starting pay reflects role requirements and experience. Final compensation determined based on demonstrated experience. Benefits vary by location; for more details, visit
