Overview
Are you an expert in occupational health and safety with a passion for injury prevention and safe workplaces? Are you a strong people leader with a Hygiene or Safety expertise? We are seeking an occupational health and safety professional to join our Prevention Field Services leadership team as a Manager, Prevention Field Services. As a key member of a provincial management team, you will manage key project/initiatives to advance injury prevention and safety in the workplaces of British Columbia.
In addition, you will be a key contact for external stakeholders on prevention and other occupational health and safety-related matters. You will lead a team of officers to deliver on compliance and consultation services in health and safety.

Where you'll workAt WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position. In this role, you will work primarily from our Prince George/Richmond office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.
What you'll do- Manage and direct assigned staff in maintaining high levels of service and in achieving Divisional priorities. Hire, orient, evaluate, coach, and manage staff performance.
- Oversee and ensure the effective delivery of Prevention services and programs, including education and consultation with employers and workers and enforcement of the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
- Participate in business planning and decision-making activities related to the continual improvement of our prevention services.
- Develop, lead, and implement regional and provincial short- and long-term projects that support the efficient and effective delivery of quality work at the field level.
- Provide advice to management and field staff to ensure the effective application of law, policy, and guidelines applicable to occupational health and safety.
- Work directly with both internal and external stakeholders, including industry, employer, and labour representatives.
We're looking for someone who can:
- Lead a team working in a complex, high volume, regulatory environment.
- Develop strategies and solutions to address complex industry issues and initiatives in order to reduce risk and keep workplaces healthy and safe.
- Provide occupational health and safety expertise and guidance to WorkSafeBC staff and stakeholders.
- Use a people-centric approach to build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Promote collaboration within the team and across the departments.
- Deliver extraordinary customer service and exhibit proficient skills in public speaking and presentations.
- Project management skills are an asset.
- Travel to locations in BC and stay overnight as required.
- Occasional on-call manager work is required as part of the position's responsibilities.
- A degree in a relevant discipline, such as occupational health and safety, occupational hygiene, industrial psychology etc.
- Minimum of five years of experience in occupational health and safety in an industry (For Prince George: Construction, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing or Forestry and for Richmond Hygiene is strongly preferred) where you have gained knowledge of the industry process and experience in managing common health and safety risks and hazards unique to the industry.
- Minimum of three years of work experience in a management role with oversight and/or management of staff in occupational health and safety that demonstrates a broad knowledge of industry, employer, and labour issues.
- Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
- A track record of successful project management and implementation.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. For instance, candidates with a relevant diploma and certificate would be required to have additional years of experience.
