Position: LSO FORS 2 - Planning Forester
Location: Vanderhoof

The Team

The Planning Team is an experienced group of five Forest Professionals who are passionate about shaping the future of local timber development. The team includes an Operations Manager, Planning Officer, Planning Foresters, and an Indigenous Relations Liaison all working together to develop plans that benefit the environment, wildlife, and industry alike. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to build partnerships with local First Nations and collaborate with a range of experts, such as Engineering professionals and GIS specialists.

The Role

As a Planning Forester, you’ll develop & maintain a long‑term operating plan that aligns with legislative requirements. You’ll also manage field assessment contracts, oversee the submission of final reports, and play a key role in supporting the business area’s goals. Your work will directly contribute to the good stewardship of forests within the Omineca region, reinforcing BCTS’ leadership in sustainable forest management.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) and two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.

Operational field forestry activities include the following:

  • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
  • Cut‑block development
  • Forest road engineering
  • Silviculture
  • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Planning integrated resource management
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Coursework or experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
  • Experience working with Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data.

About this Position

This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies. Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
