Accountabilities

Hydrotechnical

  • Characterize watercourses using field data, LiDAR, and aerial imagery.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to estimate peak flows, velocities, and flood levels (e.g., 1:100, and 1:200 year events).
  • Assess channel morphology and stability to inform crossing design.
  • Determine minimum pipeline burial depths below the thalweg to protect against design flood events (typically 1:50 or 1:100 year scour depth depending on the substance conveyed).
  • Evaluate lateral erosion risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Develop hydrotechnical design recommendations for crossings, including trenchless and open-cut methods.
  • Recommend erosion protection measures such as riverbed armouring, riprap, or bank stabilization when burial depth cannot be achieved.
  • Ensure fish passage and aquatic habitat protection are integrated into designs.
  • Ensure all works are conducted outside restricted activity periods and meet water body classification requirements.
  • Support Water Act approvals and provide documentation for regulatory review.
  • Assist in post-construction monitoring of watercourse crossings for compliance and performance.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical, environmental, and pipeline engineering teams.
  • Train junior and intermediate staff on hydrotechnical assessment techniques.

Geotechnical

  • Supervise and manage, as well as perform (if needed) geotechnical drilling/sampling (as the Ground Disturbance Supervisor) using solid/hollow stem auger, mud/air rotary, ODEX, and coring techniques; for ground-supported (truck or track-mounted) and/or helicopter-supported drilling programs. Field work as required.
  • Undertake site visits, as required to assess drilling equipment access to planned borehole locations.
  • Perform installation of geotechnical instrumentation and assist with data analysis and reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of geotechnical reports.
  • Manage geotechnical scope for various projects and meet project deadlines.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, staff and other employees.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 4 years of Hydrotechnical Consulting experience.
  • Experience related directly to pipeline geotechnics, road design, slope stability and instrumentation monitoring and installation will be considered a strong asset.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with a hydrotechnical engineering background. Graduate degrees (Masters) in hydrotechnical or geotechnical fields would be a strong asset.
  • Familiarity and previous experience using ArcGIS are considered a strong asset.
