Job Location:

BC Hydro is looking for an experienced Electrical Site Engineer to work on construction projects and ensure that construction and commissioning are done right. This role supports the upcoming capital construction program on the North Coast over the next decade, with opportunities to work closely with Construction, Engineering, Equipment Testing and Commissioning, and Maintenance teams.
What you’ll do- Use your technical expertise in electrical equipment, protection and control (P&C) design, construction and testing to resolve complex technical queries and problems by coordinating design engineers and contractors to keep construction and commissioning on track
- Develop and oversee all technical aspects of field engineering for construction and commissioning of new electrical and P&C equipment, including switch gear, transformers, electrical protection, generator/turbine control and monitoring, communication networks, and instrumentation systems
- Provide construction oversight on major projects, reviewing constructability and developing plans, schedules, procedures, and construction/commissioning methods to ensure conformance
- Perform first-level quality assurance to confirm execution of work adheres to plans, specifications, drawings, and industry standards
- Ensure tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with procedures and contract requirements; conduct field reviews and coordinate witness/hold points for critical components
- Maintain relationships with design engineering staff to resolve technical issues and address non-conformances; facilitate timely resolutions
- Collaborate with Construction Management to identify and mitigate hazards and ensure safety, environmental, and health considerations are managed
- Organize accumulation of discipline technical information (redlines, RFIs, non-conformance reports) and synthesize this into the construction report
- Develop commissioning plans to bring electrical systems online and prove their function; coordinate test programs and outages as needed
- Share knowledge and provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to engineers and staff
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering recognized by Canadian universities
- Eight years’ experience in an electrical utility environment related to electrical construction, testing, and commissioning, with a background in high voltage equipment or protection and control
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of British Columbia
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, with excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal abilities
- Ongoing professional development and a proven team player with initiative and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of substation and/or generating station design, construction, and testing is a plus
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
