Base pay range

CA $30.32/hr - CA $38.00/hr

Are you a proactive, self‑directed, analytical individual with the ability to work successfully in a team environment? The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has an exciting opportunity in the Forest Service Branch located in Prince Albert for a Forest Ecosystem Technician.

Responsibilities
  • Work with a strong team of forest inventory staff located in Prince Albert who are responsible for the provincial forest inventory and growth and yield programs;
  • Implement and audit various field survey projects;
  • Collect field data;
  • Oversee logistics planning for the field programs;
  • Help supervise and train temporary field staff;
  • Maintain field equipment.
Competencies and Skills
  • Knowledge of common field sampling procedures used in the science of forestry;
  • Experience working in the field collecting a variety of data;
  • Knowledge of principles related to ecosystem‑based forest management;
  • Committed to personal and organizational safety.
Working Conditions
  • Field work year‑round and travel throughout Saskatchewan including remote locations and overnight stays away from home;
  • Operation of a 4‑wheel drive pick‑up truck and all‑terrain vehicles in off‑road conditions while in rain gear speckled in mud.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a forestry technician program, a forestry degree program or an allied science degree program combined with relevant field experience. Formal education in the use of Geographic Information Systems would be an asset.

The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and within 2 years of commencement be eligible to obtain membership within the Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals.

Consideration will be given to April 2026 graduates for a later start date.
