Senior Backend Developer Job Pretoria area,South Africa,Software Development

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Developer to take ownership of backend API development in a fast-paced, cloud-based environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising scalable backend services using Node.js and Type Script. You will work closely with frontend developers, Dev Ops teams, and stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance systems.

Technical Requirements Experience & Core Skills

Minimum 5+ years of backend development experience
Strong experience with Node.js and Type Script
Proven experience building scalable RESTful APIs
Strong understanding of backend development principles and server-side architecture
Ability to design, build, and maintain high-performance backend systems

Database & Caching

Strong experience working with PostgreSQL
Ability to design database schemas and optimise queries
Experience working with Redis for caching, queues, or performance optimisation
Strong understanding of data integrity, transactions, and performance tuning

Systems & Infrastructure

Experience working with Linux environments
Experience using Docker and containerised applications
Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems
Experience building scalable and high-availability systems

Testing & Debugging

Experience writing unit tests and integration tests
Experience using testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or similar
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
Experience identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks

Cloud & Dev Ops (Advantageous)

Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Experience with monitoring and logging tools
Understanding of deployment and production environments

Frameworks & Tools (Advantageous)

Experience with Node.js frameworks such as Express.js, Fastify, or Koa
Experience working with ORMs such as TypeORM, Sequelize, or similar
Understanding of API security, authentication, and best practices
