Master Installation Electrician (Wireman) – Hazardous Areas Lead safe electrical installations in explosive atmospheres. Certify Ex-rated systems, mentor teams, and ensure compliance with SANS/IEC standards.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and/or supervise electrical installations and maintenance within flammable gas, vapour and dust hazardous zones, ensuring full compliance with the SANS 60079 series.
- Ensure correct selection and installation of Ex-rated equipment:
- Ex d (Flameproof)
- Ex e (Increased Safety)
- Ex i (Intrinsic Safety)
- Ex / Ex tD / Ex p (Pressurized)
- Ensure installation materials meet ATEX approvals with valid certification.
- Ensure correct selection and calibration of protection devices (overcurrent, earth fault) in hazardous environments.
- Approve and issue Certificates of Compliance (CoC) for installations in hazardous areas.
- Supervise and verify the competency of contractors working in Ex areas.
- Train and mentor artisans and electricians in safe Ex installation methods.
- Reject non-compliant work and lead corrective actions.
- Lead periodic maintenance programs in hazardous areas.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) of electrical failures and unsafe conditions.
- Recommend upgrades to reduce ignition sources and improve reliability.
- Red Seal Electrician
- Master Installation Electrician (MIE) - Master Wireman License
- Hazardous area classification training (advantage)
- 5–10+ years experience in industrial/chemical & gas/explosive atmospheres
- Demonstrated experience with Ex installations and compliance auditing
- Experience issuing CoCs for hazardous areas
- Deep knowledge of IEC 60079 parts 0–31
- Experience with Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex p, Ex tD, and Ex n installations
- Hazardous area fault-finding and instrumentation interface
- Ability to read and update hazardous area classification drawings
