Job Overview
A vacancy exists for a Physiotherapist (locum) based in the Rehabilitation Ward at the Life Eugene Marais Rehabilitation
, reporting to the Therapy Services Coordinator
. The role entails providing holistic physiotherapy services to all patients admitted to the rehabilitation unit.
- Provide physiotherapy clinical services to all patients admitted to Life Rehabilitation Unit, including some weekends and public holidays.
- Conduct assessments, plan programmes and administer treatment to patients with e.g. neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopaedic conditions or multi‑morbidity conditions such as Guillain‑Barré, in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
- Make recommendations regarding suitable assistive devices in collaboration with the occupational therapist.
- Actively participate in the spasticity management programme.
- Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition.
- Conduct home visits if indicated to ensure a safe discharge destination.
- Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
- Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
- Keep accurate and timely records and reports.
- Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly.
- Implement professional therapy services in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
- Function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
- Attend and contribute towards Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
- Supervise and train university students, as required.
- Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
- Grade 12 National Senior Certificate.
- B‑degree / BSc degree in Physiotherapy and current HPCSA registration.
- Experience in hospital‑based multi‑disciplinary rehabilitation.
- Special interest in the treatment of adults with neurological disorders; NDT training is an advantage.
- Basic/intermediate seating and spasticity management is an advantage.
- Experience in multi‑disciplinary care.
