We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and to promote a strong safety culture across our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving HSE standards across production, warehousing, and distribution environments.

Key Responsibilities Compliance & Legislation

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations, including OHSA and industry-specific requirements.

  • Stay up to date with changes in legislation and update internal policies, procedures, and practices accordingly.

Risk Management

  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas.

  • Identify potential hazards and implement effective preventive and corrective measures.

Training & Awareness

  • Organize and conduct HSE training sessions and toolbox talks for employees.

  • Promote health and safety awareness and best practices at all organizational levels.

Incident Management

  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.

  • Compile detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Inspections & Reporting

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained and functional.

  • Maintain accurate HSE records, including risk assessments, training registers, and inspection reports.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Oversee emergency preparedness initiatives, including fire drills and first aid readiness.

  • Ensure emergency exits, signage, and safety equipment are compliant and clearly visible.

Coordination & Liaison

  • Work closely with department heads to integrate safety into daily operations.

  • Coordinate with external bodies such as the Department of Labour and environmental agencies during audits and inspections.

Key Requirements Education & Certification

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

  • SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or other relevant HSE certification (preferred).

Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role.

  • Experience with in FMCG, manufacturing, or logistics environments is advantageous.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficient in MS Office and HSE management systems.
