Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer
We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and to promote a strong safety culture across our operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving HSE standards across production, warehousing, and distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities Compliance & Legislation- Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations, including OHSA and industry-specific requirements.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation and update internal policies, procedures, and practices accordingly.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas.
- Identify potential hazards and implement effective preventive and corrective measures.
- Organize and conduct HSE training sessions and toolbox talks for employees.
- Promote health and safety awareness and best practices at all organizational levels.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Compile detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained and functional.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, including risk assessments, training registers, and inspection reports.
- Oversee emergency preparedness initiatives, including fire drills and first aid readiness.
- Ensure emergency exits, signage, and safety equipment are compliant and clearly visible.
- Work closely with department heads to integrate safety into daily operations.
- Coordinate with external bodies such as the Department of Labour and environmental agencies during audits and inspections.
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or other relevant HSE certification (preferred).
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience with in FMCG, manufacturing, or logistics environments is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office and HSE management systems.
