Position Summary

Our client, an international role player in water and energy management, seeks to employ a Plant Manager to manage a biogas plant in Gauteng. The role involves overall supervision of all plant operations, including staff management, production, quality control, maintenance, CAPEX, OPEX, and health, safety and environment.

Qualifications
  • BSc/BEng/BTech in Mechanical or Electrical engineering
  • At least 5‑8 years’ experience in an industrial environment, including a power generation facility of at least 3MW
  • Professional Certificated Engineer (Pr.Cert Eng), GMR 2.1 appointment preferred
  • Knowledge of anaerobic digestion, wastewater treatment, or biomass power generation processes, including pumps, mixers, engines, and SCADA systems
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing staff in a production environment
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations, manage processes and equipment in compliance with legislation, maintain preventive maintenance systems, monitor production, and plan activities such as waste deliveries and ash removal.
  • Work with the laboratory to ensure consistency in blended feed stocks, biology of the Anaerobic Digester system, quality of digestate, and optimization of gas production.
  • Collaborate closely with employees to review production consistency while monitoring gas loss rates to identify trends and improvement areas.
  • Monitor operational expenses and explore cost‑reduction opportunities while maintaining gas production levels and quality.
  • Contribute to the development of an annual risk profile for Operations, identifying business risks and mitigation actions.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary processes, systems, and tools so that staff can perform their responsibilities.
  • Develop a clear communication strategy with all stakeholders, maintaining proper record‑keeping of all engagement reports.
  • Assist in developing SLAs with stakeholders and review SLAs biannually or as required.
  • Manage health and safety (SHEQ).
  • Develop staff capabilities, control, and supervision.
