Overview
We’re not hiring a content robot. We’re hiring a journalist who knows how to think, write, adapt, and keep up. At Media in Africa Group, we don’t do bloated teams or boring briefs. We’re a lean media business publishing Walls & Roofs in Africa, Floors in Africa, and hosting high-impact events like DAS and the FLOORS in Africa Expo. We’re on the hunt for someone who can create compelling, accurate, and engaging content for our community in the built environment space.
This is not a senior role, but it’s a real one. You’ll get training, mentorship, and a front-row seat in one of South Africa’s most niche, resilient media companies. But you’ll also need to bring energy, initiative, and a no-nonsense approach.
- Write articles, features, and interviews for print and online
- Interview architects, designers, developers and product suppliers
- Repurpose content for Meta, Mailchimp, newsletters and our Word Press site
- Be responsible for campaign execution and reporting for paid clients
- Help with lead magnets, content ideas and digital campaigns
- Show up at events, represent the brand, and capture great stories
- Has a Journalism / Media degree (non-negotiable)
- Has at least 3 years of work experience (journalism, content, digital)
- Has experience using Word Press, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp
- Can write sharp copy with zero spelling errors (non-negotiable)
- Can adapt tone from professional to punchy
- Lives in Gauteng (Pretoria or Joburg preferred)
- Has a car and a valid SA driver’s license (non-negotiable)
- Owns a smartphone that can record interviews and create social content
- iPhone 12+ / Samsung A54+ / Google Pixel 6+
- Has a decent laptop + home internet connection
- Is hungry to learn, open to feedback, and able to keep pace
- Bad grammar, spelling, or lazy writing
- No car, no phone, or no willingness to adapt
- Waiting to be told what to do every day
- Having worked in B2B, publishing, construction, or built environment sectors
- Can bring personality into professional copy
