Summary

Please read the information in this job post thoroughly to understand exactly what is expected of potential candidates. The Operations Technician is responsible on a day-to-day basis for operating and maintaining the Treatment Processes associated with the Effluent Treatment Plant. In addition to daily operational routines, the Operations Technician will implement front‑line planned maintenance tasks as part of their role.

The key objectives of the role are:

  • Operate the water/effluent treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure that water quality and quantity produced meet the customer specifications.
  • Carry out front‑line maintenance as required.
  • Carry out duties in a safe manner to minimise risk to people and the environment.
  • Monitor asset performance and take actions to maintain optimum performance.
  • Communicate with NSI and customer teams to ensure a clear understanding of plant performance, activities and any impacts on site‑wide operations.
  • Carry out isolations and issue work permits as required to allow others to work on the assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate the water/effluent treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure quality and quantity meet customer specifications.
  • Carry out front‑line maintenance and operational maintenance as required.
  • Perform duties safely, ensuring minimal risk to people and the environment.
  • Monitor plant performance and individual process units to assess when maintenance is required.
  • Communicate with NSI, customer teams, contractors and colleagues.
  • Carry out process isolations and issue work permits.
  • Comply with NSI and customer HSE systems and ensure no harm to the environment.
  • Use chemicals efficiently for the WTP process.
  • Check inventory of operational consumables and request re‑order as needed.
  • Develop strong relationships with client operational staff and advise customer of changes that could impact operations.
  • Attend shift handover and look for better ways of doing things.
  • Ensure plant availability is maximised and perform required operational maintenance.
  • Receive deliveries.
Share Knowledge / Experience With Colleagues And Others
  • Build relationships with the customer team.
  • Effectively communicate with contractors.
Required Skills / Qualifications (Essential)
  • Ability and knowledge to complete basic repairs and maintenance.
  • A working knowledge of running electro‑mechanical plant.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Effluent Treatment Plant Operations experience.
  • Basic training in EMI repairs and maintenance.
  • Training in Environmental Health and Safety.
Required Skills / Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plants.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and affect changes on the plant, demonstrated through previous work experience.
  • Ability to work within a quality system.
  • NVQ in a relevant discipline.
Working For Us Means
  • The salary is between £26,000 & £31,000 per year, depending on professional experience.
  • 20% shift allowance.
  • Overtime – 1.5×.
  • Hours of work – 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, according to the shift rota.
  • Holidays incorporated into the shift pattern.
  • Probationary period – 6 months.
  • Pension – can join immediately or auto‑enrolled after 3 months (Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice).
  • Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
  • Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 × basic salary) upon commencement of employment.
  • Notice period – 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter.
