Business Development Manager

Location:

Preston / North West

£40,000 - £60,000 per Annum

A well‑established, privately owned logistics and transport business is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to support continued growth across the North West.

Operating a multi‑site UK network, this organisation delivers a broad range of transport and logistics solutions, including dedicated fleet, groupage, network distribution, warehousing, and international services. The business has a long‑standing reputation for service quality and operational excellence.

Role

Reporting into the senior commercial leadership team, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, winning, and developing new transport and logistics customers, while also supporting the growth of selected existing accounts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactively prospecting and securing new business across the North West and other relevant regions
  • Identifying target customers and building a robust, sustainable sales pipeline
  • Preparing and presenting tenders, pricing proposals, and commercial presentations
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure proposed solutions are viable and competitive
  • Attending customer meetings and site visits independently and with senior management
  • Supporting account development and long‑term customer relationships
  • Maintaining accurate pipeline management and activity tracking via CRM
  • Providing regular reporting on sales activity and performance
About You

Requirements include:

  • Proven experience in new business development, ideally within logistics, transport, or supply chain
  • Strong B2B sales background with a track record of winning new customers
  • Commercially astute with a focus on revenue growth and customer acquisition
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Comfortable working with data, pricing, and commercial insights
  • Self‑motivated, resilient, and target‑driven
  • Able to collaborate effectively with sales, operations, and senior stakeholders
