Medical Office Specialist

—is the place to be. We are currently seeking a Medical Office Specialist to join our Presque Isle Family Health Center. The ideal candidate will be committed to our mission, vision, and organizational goals while providing exceptional patient care.

Overview

Welcomes and orients patients and visitors to the practice, ensuring that demographic, financial, and insurance information is accurately collected and updated. Provides clerical support and assistance to health center staff, including physicians and mid-level providers.

Responsibilities
  • Answers the telephone, handles patients' calls, routes to appropriate persons, or takes messages with adequate information.
  • Schedules patient appointments and keeps providers informed of the schedule.
  • Greets patients and visitors, determines their needs, and directs them appropriately.
  • Discharges patients and schedules follow-up appointments and referrals, if needed, per provider instructions.
  • Gathers insurance information from patients and explains insurance information to patients.
  • Identifies workers' compensation visits and compiles appropriate documents.
  • Scans documents into the medical records.
  • Gathers patient registration information, ensuring accuracy and entering it into the electronic medical record.
  • Collects patient co-pays.
  • Faxes, copies, or mails medical information as needed or required.
Qualifications
  • High school or GED/equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient with computers.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attentive listener with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work professionally, both independently and as part of a team.
