Area Supervisor – General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store as well as the general operations and supervision when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining a clean work area at all times.
EssentialFunctions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
- Safety is the top priority and is practiced in all actions.
- Maintain high awareness on the sales floor and correct or report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS devices, cash office, and armored carrier pick‑ups.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety through accident prevention and reporting.
- Test fire alarm systems and respond to after‑hours alarms when required.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Exhibit courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize associates through company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance and enforce the dress code.
- Keep all store areas clean, well maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Perform daily trash removal.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards.
- Receive merchandise trucks when needed.
- Process all merchandise with urgency.
- Handle non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor.

- Follow monthly presentation guidelines and execute floor moves and promotional signing.
- Perform re‑wraps as needed.
- Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong floor presence.

- Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
- Execute best practices to maximize productivity and minimize steps.
- Ensure associates execute front‑end procedures to company standards.
- Maintain pace and presence to expedite customer wait times.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.
- Control retail associates’ break schedule.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly.
- Maintain supplies and recovery for the front end.
- Expedite go‑backs, secure scanning, security tagging, and ticketing.
- Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisles, and specialty racks.
- Maintain the cleanliness of fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for fitting room garment tags.
- Ensure go‑back compliance; all returned merchandise must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as needed.
- Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.
- Control front end when needed and adhere to refund, purchase approval, securing tills, cash handling, payroll reporting, and other procedures.
- Handle payroll administration, including daily punch edits and associate scheduling compliance.
