Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Telemetry, and PCU Float Pool night shift position requiring two years of acute care experience and current ACLS/BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Position is in the acute care float pool covering Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU units across both hospital campuses
- Units include Med Surg, Med Tele, PCU, and inpatient ED holding areas with a variety of post-procedural cardiac, ortho, and geriatric patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU and 1:5-6 in Med Surg Tele
- Required to float to both West and East campuses, with assignments communicated approximately two hours before the shift
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend required, and included in perm staff holiday rotation
- First to float among unit staff
- No call or on-call requirements
- EMR used is Cerner; nurses must be able to interpret telemetry strips
- Charge nurses are present but do not take patient assignments; nurse aides are available in all settings
- Units utilize monitoring technology and a variety of RT equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow
- Provide comprehensive acute care nursing for a range of adult and geriatric patients, including managing complex cardiac and post-surgical cases
- Active involvement with a strong cath lab program and care for post-MI and post-cardiac cath patients
- Must titrate and manage cardiac and critical care drips independently
- Participate in the hospital's professional dress code; navy scrubs will be required starting October
- Flexibility is required in scheduling and floating between units and campuses approximately 20-25 minutes apart
- Completion of general and unit-specific orientation (8-hour hospital orientation, plus shifts on both Med Tele and PCU units)
- Must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by Common Spirit facilities in the last year, but PRN through outside agencies may be considered
- Must be able to pass sterile technique skills testing for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes during orientation
- Active AZ or compact RN license required and must be in hand at the time of consideration
- Minimum of two years RN experience in acute care, with at least one year in a PCU setting
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience with titrating drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin is required
- Must be comfortable interpreting cardiac rhythms and providing telemetry care
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% score within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Cannot have been employed by any facility associated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Driver’s license must be provided for consideration
- Two professional references required—one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last three years
