The Clinical Education Coordinator oversees all student clinical and field education experiences within the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic programs at Yavapai College. This position is responsible for scheduling, quality improvement, quality assurance, documentation retention, and compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
The Clinical Education Coordinator also collaborates with EMS program instructors, manages training site operations, and facilitates the development and implementation of educational programs from the American Heart Association (AHA).
This position includes teaching and managing canvas shells associated with the courses in Yavapai College EMT and Paramedic programs, continuing education, community education, AHA courses, lab simulation teaching, and other duties as assigned.
Typical job duties include but are not limited to the following:- Schedule all clinical rotations for Paramedic students and coordinate with Clinical Agency Partners to meet required benchmarks.
- Coordinate and schedule field internship rides for Paramedic and EMT students.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the clinical agency partner's student placement policies and procedures.
- Facilitate acquisition and contract management with clinical and field agency partners.
- Manage personnel preceptor training programs for clinical and field agency partners.
- Oversee lab technician and instructor training, certification management, and continuing education for the EMS department.
- Oversee certification management and continuing education in all AHA disciplines for the Health Sciences, including Nursing, Allied Health, Radiology, HPER, and Fire Science.
- Track skills competency documentation, clinical rotation documentation, field internship documentation, grading, and filing.
- Ensure compliance with AZDHS and NREMT staff certification requirements.
- Conduct all AHA training site operations and courses. Offer and prepare course materials, course set up and break down, review course evaluations, enter information into the AHA website, and issue cards.
- Collaborate with the EMS program instructors to include expert lecturers on subject matter and topics within EMT and Paramedic programs.
- Research and implement new subject matter expert topics into EMS programs.
- Assist the program director in the initial application for and maintain the Commission on Accreditation for Pre‑Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) certification for continuing education programs for Yavapai College EMS programs.
- Assist in recruiting lab technicians and adjunct instructors for the EMS program.
- Serve as a point of contact for lab technicians and adjunct instructors within the chain of communication for the EMS program director.
- Oversee the lab technician and adjunct instructor scheduling software and assist with class distribution based on instructor availability.
- Assist the instructional support specialist with inventory ordering requests from lab technicians and adjunct instructors and forward them to the EMS program director for final approval.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Paramedic and EMT orientation program.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the lab technician and adjunct instructor training program.
- Follow the Yavapai College EMS program policies and procedures to process all EMT and Paramedic program applications.
This position requires excellent oral, written, and electronic communication. The incumbent will need to effectively foster collegial relationships both intra and interdepartmentally and model professional behaviors, including involvement with/in professional organizations and engagement in lifelong learning.
Qualifications- Associate degree in the discipline or related field, or the ability to obtain an associate degree within 18 months of hire.
- Current national/state certification as a Paramedic, with two years of experience.
- Current AHA provider card, and instructor card for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS/ITLS or the ability to obtain instructor card within 6 months of hire.
- Instructor methodology totaling 24 hours.
- Knowledge of AHA guidelines and certification procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in the discipline or related field.
- One year of experience in clinical education management.
- Two to five years of training/teaching experience, with experience in training for the support of in‑house personnel in adult education and patient management.
- Membership in professional organizations related to the field of instruction.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards as put forth by CoAEMSP and CAAHEP.
- Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
