Job SummaryGeneral Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high‑resolution surveillance systems. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gather, maintain, and compile technical data such as laboratory or measurement test results, and create measurement or test reports.
Create, update, and maintain engineering documentation, reports and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics. May provide preliminary analyses of data or documentation where guidelines are provided in such areas as basic statistical analysis and model dimensional consistency and accuracy. Perform general mathematical calculations using established formulas. Develop and maintain a variety of documentation and reports as required.
May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
- Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
- Gathers, compiles and maintains technical data such as test results and engineering design changes.
- Performs general mathematical calculations and presents findings.
- May provide preliminary analyses of data or documentation where guidelines are provided in such areas as basic statistical analysis and model dimensional consistency and accuracy.
- May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Additional functions: other duties as assigned or required.
- Typically requires an associate's degree in engineering or related technical field and one year of related experience. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Perform dimensional measurements from established reference systems on tools and assemblies.
- Digitize tools, models and components using structured light scanning and photogrammetry methods.
- Maintain and operate measurement equipment including laser tracker, photogrammetry and structured light scanner.
- Interface with engineers to establish measurement requirements and reference systems.
- Perform scans of tools, parts and assemblies to support variance analysis investigations, product acceptance and first‑article inspection.
- Reverse engineer CAD models from scan data.
- Interpret general instructions and work under limited supervision.
- Must be a structured worker; capable of interpreting engineering requirements, formulating a measurement plan, and performing the scan or measurement using this plan in a timely, organized manner.
- The selected candidate will perform measurements and work with engineers to reverse engineer scanned shapes or analyze variances between CAD models and measured shapes.
- Solid model CAD or CAM experience is required.
- Requires an in-depth knowledge of the technical field, associated policies and procedures and relevant regulations.
- Experience with Siemens/NX, Pro‑E/Creo, Solid Works, Verisurf, Master
CAM, Spatial Analyzer, Polyworks or Geomagic/Design
X software preferred. - Tasks will include performance of contact measurements using laser tracker; surface measurement using structured light scanner / photogrammetry equipment; maintenance of equipment hardware and software; loading and maintaining all measurement files in a measurements database.
- Requires knowledge and experience with optical scanning, 3D surface mapping and reverse engineering.
- Must have analytical ability and be able to read and understand detailed instructions, drawings and specifications.
- Should possess an understanding of at least basic GD&T principles.
- Must be able to write and precisely record information, communicate and interface effectively with all levels of technical personnel including engineers; interpret and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Must be very proficient in the use of computer applications pertinent to the field, and have the skills necessary to precisely record technical data.
- Must be able to perform complex assignments under the direction of senior staff.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
