You’ll Do

Responsible for the successful clinical management and operation of the Surgical Center. Provides functional direction to members of the clinical team to achieve optimal patient outcomes while optimizing available resources, including surgical case management and perioperative patient care coordination.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Develop proper clinical procedures that ensure patient safety, comfort, and quality.
  • Develop appropriate admission and discharge procedures and assure that pre‑admission criteria are appropriately met.
  • Manage the surgical area both operationally and fiscally during the tour of duty.
  • Coordinate efficient staffing on a daily basis, based on schedule and procedural needs.
  • Research and prepare cost‑reduction proposals and implement them when applicable.
  • Evaluate ongoing patient care and report significant patient problems to appropriate team members.
  • Collaborate with the Administrator to ensure personnel policy development and communication to staff to achieve consistency in labor and employee relations.
  • Serve as a resource and role model for staff.
  • Plan, evaluate, recommend, and implement new initiatives when appropriate.
  • Select and hire employees according to established guidelines; monitor, coach, develop, and evaluate performance of staff on an ongoing basis in accordance with applicable performance standards.
  • Participate in interviews for perioperative personnel selection.
  • Assist in evaluating clinical personnel performance.
  • Monitor that necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
  • Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to the clinical team.
  • Ensure compliance with all SCOA policies and procedures and governmental regulations pertaining to controlled substances, infection control, patient confidentiality, CPR, ACLS, PALS, safety and risk management, quality improvement and assurance, emergency codes and evacuation, DOH, Medicare, AAAHC, and all other voluntary and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, employees, team leaders, and physicians.
  • Assist with the development of patient education material.
  • Support and promote a positive image of SCOA when dealing with patients and others inside and outside the organization.
  • Monitor patient service feedback and contribute to the process of resolving complaints and service issues.
  • Assist with materials management as needed, serving as backup for ordering and unpacking supplies.
  • Assist with coordinating emergency drills for the facility, per regulation requirements.
  • Provide support with distributing DME products and maintaining applicable documentation.
  • Oversee annual employee compliance training.
  • Assist with provider EMR/practice management system training.
  • Manage the ordering and tracking process for narcotic medications.
  • Provide backup to administrative/front‑desk duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current registered nurse licensure in New York State.
  • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.
  • Minimum four (4) years nursing management experience, preferably in an operating room setting.
  • Experience obtaining and maintaining Medicare certification through AAAHC or JCAHO.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
