SummaryThe Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the ANA scope of practice. The Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, plans care, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards.
He or she demonstrates leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.
- Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Maintains accountability for care delegated.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety and initiates interventions related to the risk factors identified.
- Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peers on assigned patients at change of shift.
- Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable and ethical manner.
- Embrace the cultural diversity and differences of patients and team members.
- Respect the dignity of all individuals through the maintenance of the caring relationship.
- Maintain open lines of communication inclusive of active listening.
- Seek experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Teach others to succeed through mentorship.
- Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. - Experience:
Must have at least one year of Emergency Room RN experience. - License:
Current license issued by New York State to practice as a registered nurse. BLS and ACLS required.
