Overview
Clinical Nurse Coordinator position in the Medical Practice Med Oncology department in Poughkeepsie, NY. Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
SummaryThe Clinical RN Coordinator - Surgical Oncology coordinates the clinical and administrative activities related to the outpatient physician's practice, to ensure high quality, safe patient care is delivered for this high risk disease-specific population. The position will lead all nursing staff in the practice and work with the Practice Manager as a partner in clinical operational decisions.
Responsibilities- Assists supervising physician with patient visits in the exam room, including physical assessment and health history. Coordinates care with nursing staff and other providers.
- Responds to and/or refers incoming patient care related phone calls. Instructs patient and caregivers regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Collects and tracks clinical data (including laboratory, radiology, and pathology) for patients to ensure receipt of ordered tests.
- Reviews abnormal data with the primary physician; coordinates need for specific intervention (e.g., further testing, medication changes, or referrals).
- Participates in performance improvement activities to help ensure oncology patients receive high quality care.
- Assists in training newly hired nurses in care, triage, and assessment; supervises nurses and medical assistants to ensure excellent patient care.
- Assists physicians with routine outpatient procedures.
- Coordinates services with the multidisciplinary healthcare team for the Oncology/Hematology patient (e.g., referrals, primary care, radiation therapy, inpatient treatment, palliative care, survivorship programs, hospice, home care, social work, navigators, dietary, respiratory services, community programs).
- Collaborates with AVP of Nursing for NHMP or designee to ensure annual and departmental competencies are completed; identifies education needs for practice nurses and medical assistants.
- Creates educational material for nurses/MAs as needed.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Registered Nurse
Required:
State of NY RN license.
Minimum Experience: three years office nursing experience.
Education Essential: BSN required. Oncology Nursing or surgical oncology nursing background required.
