Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool role in a level 2 trauma teaching hospital requiring a NY RN license and strong med/surg skills.

• Position based in a 349-bed acute care teaching hospital with a level 2 trauma designation
• Float to all Medical/Surgical floors, Emergency Department holding area, Observation Unit, and surge areas
• Night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM with every other weekend required
• Patient populations include general med/surg, ED hold, and observation cases
• Clinical skills utilized include chest tube set up and care, CPAP/BiPap, trach care, drains, feeding tubes, epidural and PCA pumps, line management, PICC/central lines, port-a-cath/vascular device access and care, wound vac, tele interpretation, blood/blood products administration, and use of cooling and warming blankets
• Cerner EMR is used
• Responsibilities include comprehensive care for diverse med/surg patients and the ability to float to multiple units as needed
• Team-oriented environment in a teaching hospital setting
• Completion of hospital-specific education modules before start required
• Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a reduced rate
• Candidates with prior employment at associated health systems may be subject to an eligibility review process
• Holiday and weekend coverage is required according to department needs
• Scrub and dress code requirements will be provided during onboarding

• Active NY RN license required at time of consideration
• American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum of 5 years RN experience in a hospital setting required
• Strong Med/Surg experience with demonstrated competency in relevant clinical procedures
• Preferred experience with Cerner EMR
• Two professional references from managers within the previous year required
